The Scientific Information Department offers assistance in finding catalog, bibliographic and subject information in disciplines related to the university's profile. It conducts training for first-year students covering the principles of operation of the various units of the library, characteristics of the collection, ways of borrowing, searching in library catalogs, arrangement of the collection in the free access area.

It trains students and employees (individual or organized groups) how to handle electronic journals, full-text databases, how to search for information on the Internet and prepare bibliometric analysis, and determine the number of citations, Hirsch index value, Impact Factor index for a journal.

As part of the documentation work, data are compiled for the Computer System of Publication Records - SKEP, recording the scientific achievements of the UZ employees. The data are updated in accordance with the decree of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and generated in the form of reports for the needs of individual units of the university and for research staff and doctoral students.

The department's employees are members of the BazTech Consortium team creating the nationwide Database on the Content of Polish Technical Journals and the BazTol portal collecting Polish electronic sources in the technical and scientific sciences.
As part of its outreach activities, it prepares materials about the library for news services and maintains the UZ library’s Facebook profile.

Within the structure of the Scientific Information Department, there is the Regional Center for Standardization and Patent Information (ROINP).
